Orlando columnist says Scott Frost regrets leaving UCF for Nebraska
An Orlando columnist is getting crushed on Twitter after a column he wrote, arguing that Nebraska head coach Scott Frost regrets leaving UCF.
Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel followed Frost and the Knights during the team’s undefeated season and victory over Auburn in the Peach Bowl. And after the Huskers’ dreadful 0-3 start — and No. 13 UCF’s 3-0 start — the columnist believes Frost regrets his decision to leave Orlando.
In his column, Bianchi points to the connection Frost had with his players, the idea of recruiting being easier in Orlando, and that the move back to Lincoln was too early in his career.
From Bianchi’s column:
The natural inclination among fans is to believe think Frost regrets his decision simply because the Cornhuskers are 0-3 for the first time since 1945 and UCF is 3-0 and ranked No. 13 nationally under new coach Josh Heupel. White it’s true Frost would be much happier now if his Huskers were playing well, it’s not like he has been blindsided by the bad situation he stepped into…
Turning around the Nebraska program will be a much bigger task than turning around UCF — even though UCF was winless the year before Frost arrived. College football is all about recruiting, and it was relatively easy in Orlando for Frost to recruit the burners he needed to run his UCFast offense.
Frost decided to leave UCF before the Knights played in the AAC Championship Game against Memphis.
While everyone expected him to take the job at his alma mater, Frost was tight-lipped about the situation until after the season. And, if you asked Frost, it wasn’t an easy decision to make.
Bianchi believes Frost regrets his decision to leave UCF, but he also believes that, given the opportunity to do it again, the head coach would absolutely still leave for Nebraska.
