Two Nebraska football players have entered their names into the NCAA transfer portal with spring practice on the horizon.

The Omaha World-Herald is reporting that linebacker Pheldarius Payne and receiver Will Nixon have officially entered their names into the database and will explore options outside of Lincoln. Both were members of Nebraska’s 2020 recruiting class.

Payne re-enters the portal after initially doing so in December. He withdrew his name a short time later and appeared to be committed to staying in Lincoln. He was a junior college transfer into Nebraska, joining the Huskers after spending time at Lackawanna.

In two seasons, Payne appeared in 18 total contests. Though he didn’t make any starts at the linebacker position, Payne was credited with 40 tackles and 3 sacks.

Nixon was injured in summer 2020 and was unable to play during his first season with the program. Last year, the receiver appeared in 3 games and hauled in 1 catch for 5 yards.

The decisions from both Payne and Nixon comes just days before spring practice, as Nebraska is scheduled to begin on Monday.
