Nebraska fans may be able to forgive Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald for a comment he made a few years ago after his latest press conference.

In 2014, Fitzgerald caught a little heat from Huskers fans after calling Nebraska a “pretty boring state” before the Wildcats went head-to-head with their B1G West foe. But the Northwestern head coach had nothing but positive things to say this time around.

During his weekly press conference, Fitzgerald talked about Nebraska fans potentially invading Ryan Field on Saturday, as they tend to do with many college football stadiums. Though he’d rather see more purple and white in the stands, he at least gives credit to the Huskers for having a “spectacular” fan base.

“It’s like the worst Jedi mind trick,” Fitzgerald said, according to Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune. “The nicest people in the world.”

That should make up for that 2014 blunder.

Nebraska fans are often regarded as some of the friendliest and most polite in college football. It’s one reason why Memorial Stadium is every fan’s bucket list.

But Fitzgerald is going to try and frustrate the otherwise-kind fan base this week as Northwestern shoots for its third win of the season. The Huskers, on the other hand, are hoping to get their first victory.
