ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum would put Urban Meyer on his shortlist for Nebraska’s next head coach.

Nebraska fired head coach Scott Frost on Sunday after Nebraska’s 45-42 loss to Georgia Southern. The loss sent shockwaves around the college football world and Nebraska made an immediate decision less than 24 hours after the loss.

In an appearance on ESPN College Football on YouTube, Finebaum discussed Frost’s firing and who could be a potential replacement. Finebaum named Meyer as a possible replacement for Nebraska:

“There are a few game-changers in college sports… One of them I think will be (in Lincoln for Week 3). I don’t know about the fit, but Urban Meyer is the kind of coach if you’re looking to change the dynamics, unless you’re in the NFL. He’s still a good coach in college football, but is Lincoln the kind of place that Urban can fit in? He would certainly be on my shortlist.”

Most recently, Meyer coached the Jacksonville Jaguars for less than 1 season in 2021. Meyer was fired in December and has not coached since. His last coaching stop in college football was at Ohio State. Meyer left Ohio State at the end of the 2018 season.

Nebraska will look to find a permanent replacement for Frost before the start of the 2023 season. The Cornhuskers have a 1-2 record.
