President of Barstool Sports calls on Nebraska to fill bowl vacancy after Boise State opts out
Barstool Sports president Dave Portnoy is calling on Nebraska to fill a vacancy left by Boise State in the Arizona Bowl. Barstool is the title sponsor of this year’s postseason game.
Due to COVID-19 concerns within the Boise State program, the team has opted out of playing in the Arizona Bowl against Central Michigan. Portnoy tweeted out the Broncos will not be a participant on Monday afternoon.
Shortly after that tweet, Portnoy called on Nebraska to step in and fill the open slot.
“Calling (Nebraska), Let’s go Husker Nation! Scott Frost finally gets Big Red to bowl game!” Portnoy wrote. “Turns program around. We’ll put (Will Compton) on the call!” Michigan would do it if we weren’t in playoff!”

Nebraska finished the 2021 season with a 3-9 record but lost all 9 games by single digits. Eight of those losses came in 1-possession games. The Huskers have yet to appear in a bowl game under Frost.
The Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl is scheduled to be played on Dec. 31, so it would seem highly unlikely that Nebraska — or anyone — would be able to fill that void in such a short period of time.
Stranger things have happened, though.
