RB Markese Stepp prefers Nebraska's 'gritty' style to USC's 'pretty-boy' offense

Nebraska is in week 3 of fall camp as the get set for their week 0 tilt against Illinois that is 17 days away.

Markese Stepp, the 6-foot, 230-pound transfer RB from USC who now plays for Nebraska has made headlines during the early weeks of the Huskers camp.

That was no different when Stepp talked about the differences between the Trojans and Huskers offensive styles in a Wednesday press conference. The running back said he prefers Nebraska’s “gritty” offense vs. USC’s “pretty-boy” style, according to Jacob Padilla of Hail Varsity.

Markese Stepp described USC’s offense as “flamboyant” and “pretty-boy” and Nebraska’s as “gritty.” He said he’s grateful for the chance to learn in USC’s system but prefers Nebraska’s offense.

Stepp transferred from USC to Nebraska last winter. Stepp in 3 seasons with the Trojans had 505 yards on 5.1 yards per carry and 6 touchdowns.

The Huskers are hoping that Stepp can provide a more stable RB room as QB Adrian Martinez last fall was the leading rusher last season for the Huskers. Martinez had 521 yards rushing on 5.7 yards per carry and 7 touchdowns last season.

The leading rusher at RB last season was Dedrick Mills with 396 yards rushing on 4.7 yards per carry with 3 touchdowns for the Huskers.

The Huskers open the season in Champaign against the Illini on Aug. 28.
