A former Nebraska and current TCU wide receiver has decided to retire from football.

Tuesday afternoon, Colin Post of TCU 360 reported that JD Spielman has decided to step away from the game. He recently informed head coach Gary Patterson after a recent conversation with his family.

Spielman transferred to TCU from Nebraska before the 2020 season. Spielman opted to utilize the NCAA’s additional year of eligibility following the 2020 COVID-19 year.

Spielman hauled in 170 receptions for 2,546 yards and 15 touchdowns from 2017-19 with the Huskers. He was expected to be a critical part of the offense in 2020 but instead opted to leave Lincoln for opportunities elsewhere.

During the 2020 season, Spielman caught just 5 passes for 56 yards. This fall, the receiver was responsible for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns on 8 receptions.

TCU is currently 3-4 this season.
