One of Scott Frost’s previous key assistants has earned a new gig in the NFL.

According to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Troy Walters is being promoted by the Cincinnati Bengals to the position of WRs coach. Walters served as an assistant WRs coach during the 2020 season.

Walters’ connection with Frost goes back to 2016 when Frost took over as the head coach at UCF. Walters joined the staff as OC and WRs coach after coaching WRs at Colorado from 2013-15.

After Frost was hired by Nebraska, Walters remained a part of Frost’s staff in the same role. He held that position in 2018-19 but parted ways with Nebraska after the 2019 season.

Walters played collegiately at Stanford and was taken in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He spent eight seasons in the NFL before getting his start as a coach at Indiana State.

It will be interesting to see if and when Walters is able to get another shot at leading an offense.
