Nebraska assistant coach Armon Gates will be returning to the staff for the 2022-23 season. The Omaha World-Herald reported the news on Tuesday evening.
Gates was thought to be a potential candidate to join the coaching staff at Missouri with his brother, Dennis, landing the head coaching job. He had previously been at Cleveland State from 2019-22, where he posted a 50-40 record and made 1 NIT appearance and 1 NCAA Tournament experience.
Gates has spent the past 4 seasons with the Huskers. He was part of Tim Miles’ final staff in Lincoln before his termination. Current head coach Fred Hoiberg retained Gates as he assembled his new staff.
Prior to his arrival at Nebraska, Gates spent 5 seasons working with Chris Collins at Northwestern. He also had stops at Loyola-Chicago, TCU, Kent State and Western Kentucky.
Nebraska finished the 2021-22 season with a 10-22 record and a 4-16 mark in B1G play.
