Nebraska’s running back room was full but rather green this season. At the outset, it had 4 freshmen (three of them second-year players), a third-year redshirt freshman, and a redshirt sophomore. That herd has thinned a bit in the last month.

According to the Lincoln Journal Star’s Parker Gabriel, freshman tailback Marvin Scott III is entering the transfer portal.

Scott was a 3-star recruit out of the 2020 class. He arrived in Lincoln alongside running back Sevion Morrison, who put his own name in the portal earlier this month. Originally from Port Orange, Florida, Scott was the 50th running back in his class and the 731st prospect overall, per the 247Sports Composite.

The 5-foot-9 runner showed up looking the part, but saw sporadic playing time during his first two seasons in Lincoln. This season, he had just 17 carries for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns. As a true freshman, he saw 24 carries for 62 yards in 5 appearances. He had just 9 total appearances as a Husker.

Nebraska’s season ended this past Saturday with a 28-21 loss to Iowa. The defeat dropped the program to 3-9 in coach Scott Frost’s 4th year in charge.
