Scott Frost discusses surgery for Adrian Martinez, timetable for looming decision

As Nebraska heads into the final game of the season vs. No. 16 Iowa, the Huskers’ starting quarterback is having surgery for his injured shoulder.

Nebraska coach Scott Frost announced that Adrian Martinez is “in a good place” and he expects the determination about his future with the program will be swift. Martinez has spent 4 seasons with the program but has an opportunity to return to the Huskers due to the extra year of eligibility awarded for the 2020 season.

Adrian Martinez is having shoulder surgery today, Scott Frost said. He’s “in a good place,” and the two will have conversations about next steps in the coming days. Frost said a decision about the future will likely come sooner rather than later.

“I don’t think that decision will take too long,” Frost said. “I want what’s best for the program and definitely want what’s best for Adrian.”

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Martinez amassed 2,863 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions this season. For his Nebraska career, Martinez has totaled 8,491 yards, 45 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions.

Nebraska is 3-8 overall and sixth place in the B1G West. The Cornhuskers are on a five-game losing streak, most recently dropping a 35-28 contest at then-No. 15 Wisconsin. Nebraska’s last victory came vs. Northwestern on Oct. 2.
