This wasn’t the year many expected out of Nebraska. Getting to a bowl game was a big goal for the Huskers, and one they fell short of for a third-straight season.
While there was plenty of disappointment among the players and coaches in the locker room following a heartbreaking 27-24 loss to Iowa, it didn’t change the message Scott Frost had for his seniors. For the guys playing in their last game in a Husker uniform, the head coach says he’s forever grateful.
“I just told the seniors I love them and appreciate them,” Frost said after the game. “They’ve been through a lot. Been through a lot for four years, been through a lot this year. I’m grateful to them and we’re going to miss a lot of those guys.”
Nebraska had its chances to beat a good, 17th-ranked Iowa team on Friday, but failed to take advantage. For a second-straight year, the Huskers fell to the Hawkeyes on a game-ending field goal attempt.
With the loss, Nebraska fell to 5-7 on the year and is likely eliminated from bowl eligibility. There is a chance the Huskers could still get in if there’s a lack of 6-6 teams qualified, but they’d need some serious help. Right now, it appears the season is over for Nebraska.
Below is Frost’s comments on his message to the seniors after the game.
