Scott Frost names Nebraska's starting QB for season opener
Scott Frost has named Nebraska’s starting quarterback for 2022. Casey Thompson is QB1 for the Huskers entering the Week 0 game against Northwestern in Dublin, Ireland.
Frost shared the news Thursday on Huskers Radio, per Evan Bland of The Omaha World-Herald:
Frost on the QB pecking order: “Casey’s going to be the guy.” Complimentary of what Chubba Purdy and Logan Smothers have done in camp too.
Frost notes a “big jump” for Thompson in fall, likely in part because of the healed thumb. He’ll get the first snap in Ireland.

Thompson, a Texas transfer, was competing with Chubba Purdy, an FSU transfer. The former Longhorn had the experience advantage.
Thompson has been in college since 2018. He has 3 seasons of experience after redshirting his first year in Austin. Last season, Thompson was 165-of-261 passing for 2,113 yards, 24 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He also ran the ball 55 times for 157 yards and 4 TDs in 2021.
