Nebraska is one step ahead of where it was a year ago. Last season, it took the Huskers seven games before they finally got their first win.

On Saturday, Nebraska posted a 35-21 win to start the 2019 season 1-0. And while wins are usually enough in college football, it wasn’t quite the dominant performance many were expecting to see right out of the gate. To put it kindly, the Huskers didn’t look much like a B1G contender.

Scott Frost and his staff are looking in the mirror, though. During his weekly press conference on Monday, the second-year Nebraska head coach said h expects more out of himself and the staff after a lackluster performance.

“We’ve got to do a better job as a coaching staff,” Frost said.

Frost also talked about practicing with a purpose and being a little more crisp in gameday preparation.

Nebraska jumps from Group of Five opponent to facing a bitter Power Five rival, traveling to Boulder to take on Colorado on Saturday. Last year, the Buffaloes escaped Lincoln with a 33-28 win.

The Huskers are an early favorite to win the game, as Colorado is in a transition period with new head coach Mel Tucker. But Nebraska is going to have to play much better in order to get a win on the road.

Unlike last year, though, Nebraska has a game under its belt before taking on its rival. That could prove to be a significant difference this weekend.
