Scott Frost, who was the head coach at UCF in 2016 and 2017, has been in contact with the school regarding its vacant head coaching position, a source told Mike Farrell Sports on Wednesday.

Frost led the Knights to their first undefeated and untied season in program history in 2017 but left UCF to become the head coach at Nebraska, his alma mater. Frost was fired at Nebraska early in the 2022 season and is now a senior football analyst for the Los Angeles Rams.

Now, could Frost be in line for a return to Orlando and a UCF program he led to unmatched heights in 2017?

“I know for fact the AD has reached out and had conversations with him. And he’ll come cheap, which UCF needs,” a UCF source told Mike Farrell Sports on Wednesday morning.

After going 19-7 at UCF, which included that magical 13-0 record in 2017, Frost was mostly a flop at Nebraska, going 16-31. He was fired after just 3 games in 2022 from the school that he once quarterbacked to a shared national championship in 1997.

After completing that undefeated season in 2017, Frost and UCF did something bold. The school claimed a national championship, which is recognized in the official NCAA record books.

UCF is apparently uncovering every stone in their search to replace head coach Gus Malzahn. According to a different report from The Athletic, the program took a swing at USC head coach Lincoln Riley, but there has not been an indication that Riley is interested in the move.
