Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez has put up some big numbers for the offense this season, and he’s been doing at less than full strength. That’s what head coach Scott Frost said on his television show on Sunday evening.

Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald tweeted out some of Frost’s comments from Sunday’s show, which recapped the Huskers’ 30-23 loss to Minnesota over the weekend. He revealed that Martinez has been playing “a little beat up” recently and was “a little jittery” early in the game against the Golden Gophers.

Martinez finished the game completing 18-of-33 for 241 yards and a touchdown. He was also knocked around quite a bit, having -17 yards on the ground.

Nebraska’s loss to Minnesota dropped the Huskers to 3-5 on the season and put their bowl eligibility hopes in serious jeopardy. They’ll need to win 3 of their final 4 games to get to 6-6.

Remaining opponents include No. 25 Purdue, No. 5 Ohio State, Wisconsin and No. 11 Iowa.

This season, Martinez has thrown for 1,995 yards and 10 touchdowns with just 3 interceptions and a 64.5% completion rate. He’s also rushed for 433 yards and 10 scores.

It sounds like the off week is coming at a great time for Martinez and the rest of the Huskers. The opportunity to rest before a pivotal stretch will be important.

That should also give Martinez a little more time to get healthy for the matchup against Purdue.
