The words had to taste like vinegar to Scott Frost. But when the Nebraska head coach spoke with the media in the post-game press conference following the Huskers’ 31-28 loss, he didn’t know how else to describe Iowa.
“Iowa is a bigger, stronger football team right now,” Frost said following the game. He followed that up by saying he never thought he’d have to admit that, vowing that it “will be fixed” in the future.
Nebraska found itself in a 28-13 hole in the fourth quarter, but fought its way back into the game late. With some impressive drives in the final quarter, the Huskers were able to tie the game at 28-28 with only a few minutes left, appearing to force overtime with the Hawkeyes.
But the Hawkeyes pieced together a great final drive, getting Miguel Recinos in field goal range with just three seconds left. The senior drilled a 41-yard field goal attempt, netting Iowa its fourth straight win in the head-to-head series.
While the loss was disappointing, Frost’s team didn’t give up. We appear to have an intense and fierce rivalry growing between the two programs.
And as long as Frost as in Lincoln, he’ll work tirelessly to ensure that Iowa doesn’t have the bigger, strong football team. That much is a guarantee.
