Nebraska has a real quarterback competition on its hands.

With just two weeks remaining until the start of the season, Scott Frost is splitting hairs trying to determine who will be the starter under center for the Huskers’ season opener against Akron on Sept. 1.

According to Frost, it’s still too close to call right now.

Talking with the media on Friday, Frost said that the quarterback battle had been narrowed down to redshirt freshman Tristan Gebbia and true freshman Adrian Martinez. If the Huskers were playing a game this weekend, Frost said that both guys would see some snaps.

Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald and Steven Sipple of the Lincoln Journal Star had the updates:

There was plenty of buzz when Martinez, a 4-star prospect and the seventh-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 recruiting class, signed with the Huskers. There was almost a feeling that he’d be the starter from Day 1.

But Gebbia has kept the competition tight, making the decision difficult for Frost.

It’ll be interesting to see if one guy wins the job over the next few days or if Frost gives both guys a chance to prove himself on the field.
