Nebraska has been blessed at the tight end position in recent years. Jack Stoll and Austin Allen were some of Nebraska’s top contributors at the position, but those two are now in the NFL.

In 2021, Allen produced 602 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns with the offense. Now, Travis Vokolek stands poised to step into the void left by Allen’s departure.

The issue right now for the Huskers is finding depth behind Vokolek. That is an issue TE coach Sean Beckton tackled on Monday.

Beckton called the TE battle “fierce” and listed a trio of Nate Boerkircher, Chris Hickman and Chancellor Brewington as the first in line battling it out. AJ Rollins, James Carnie and Thomas Fidone are also options though Rollins and Fidone did not practice Monday.

Fidone – one of the top TE prospects in the country for the class of 2021 – has been plagued by injuries early in his career. Beckton did not have a timetable for Fidone to return to practice but is focused on the long-term plan with him.
