Another week, another disaster on special teams for the Huskers.

Nebraska scored a touchdown late in the third quarter to narrow its deficit vs. Oklahoma to 14-9 with an opportunity to kick an extra point.

However, the Sooners managed to block the extra point and return it to the other end zone for a 2-point conversion. That’s a 3-point swing, and it means OU now has a full 7-point advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Here’s the play:

Nebraska’s special teams were a huge issue in its loss to Illinois back in Week 0.

Nebraska has actually played pretty well vs. Oklahoma, considering expectations. The Huskers have been able to limit Oklahoma offensively and frustrate Heisman candidate Spencer Rattler.

Although the Huskers have struggled to generate points themselves, they have been able to move the ball enough to consistently control the clock. That, along with clutch defense on third down, has allowed Nebraska to hang around with Oklahoma’s normally-potent offense.

Nebraska was a consensus 22-point underdog heading into this game. The Huskers’ last battle with Oklahoma was in the 2010 Big 12 Championship Game. Nebraska left for the Big Ten the following season.
