Trev Alberts says Scott Frost will have to earn trust of fans on special teams play
Nebraska’s special teams unit has been rough this season, and that’s an understatement.
In the loss to Michigan State, it was a fourth-quarter punt return that went for a touchdown that swung the game. The Spartans tied Nebraska and forced overtime with that return before kicking a game-winning field goal.
The game against the Spartans is just the tip of the iceberg. Special teams also produced a lot of mistakes in the losses to Oklahoma and Illinois.
After watching Nebraska’s second-half performance in East Lansing, it is hard not to feel like special teams is the one area holding back the Huskers. And on Wednesday night, AD Trev Alberts addressed that play.
He said the special teams play is one area that Scott Frost will have to earn the trust of fans moving forward:
Alberts talking about earning fans’ trust that NU and Frost can fix special teams struggles: “We’re going have to earn that. Coach Frost is going to have to earn that. … Until special teams change and improve, we have to earn that.”

Alberts also took time to highlight some of the positives that came out of the loss to Michigan State and the pain that comes from the continued struggles in close games:

Trev Alberts on the reality of struggling in football: "If you never get rewarded, eventually you start asking whether it's worth it."
He also says he was pleased with the reaction he saw from guys after MSU. "When it hurts that bad, you understand how important it is to them."
