The battle came down to the wire, but Nebraska head coach Scott Frost has finally settled on a starting quarterback.
Sunday morning, the depth chart was released and true freshman Adrian Martinez will be the starter the Huskers’ season-opening contest against Akron on Saturday. The former 4-star quarterback provides a dual-threat weapon for Nebraska.
Martinez will be the first true freshman quarterback to start in a season opener in Nebraska history.
True freshman Adrian Martinez is listed as #Nebraska’s starting QB.. impressive kid. A very fast, mature 220-pounder from California who is a good fit for Scott Frost’s system.

Martinez was in a quarterback battle with Tristan Gebbia all throughout the summer. Frost even said earlier this week that there’s a chance both quarterbacks could play.
As a recruit, Martinez was ranked as the No. 21 player in California and the No. 7 dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 class.
Nebraska hosts Akron at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday.
