After spending the last four seasons with Nebraska, linebacker Will Honas has decided to explore his options outside of Lincoln.

Sean Callahan of HuskerOnline.com is reporting that the veteran linebacker has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. The news comes after Honas was approved for a medical hardship waiver for an additional year of eligibility, which Nebraska signed off on.

Honas arrived at Nebraska in 2018, Scott Frost’s first season as the head coach of the program. Prior to landing in Lincoln, the linebacker spent two years at Butler Community College.

The 2022 season will be Honas’ seventh year in college football.

Honas sustained an injury prior to the start of the 2021 season and missed the entire year. During his time with the Huskers, the linebacker has racked up 145 tackles, 12 for loss and 4 sacks. He’s played in 23 career games.

Honas is also a two-time Academic All-B1G selection and was an All-B1G Honorable Mention following the 2020 season. He will have one year of eligibility remaining at his next destination.

During the 2020 season, Honas put together his best season with the Huskers in just 8 games. He amassed 57 stops and a career-high 6.5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. Honas was expected to be a key piece to the Nebraska defense in 2021 before suffering the season-ending injury.
