The Nebraska offense isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire against South Alabama, but thanks to three return touchdowns, the Cornhuskers have a lead at home in Week 1.

Nebraska scored its third non-offensive touchdown of the afternoon on the first play of the fourth quarter. Cornerback Cam Taylor blindsided South Alabama quarterback Cephus Johnson, recording a strip-sack. Outside linebacker Alex Davis then recovered the loose ball in the end zone.

The fumble recovery in the end zone gave Nebraska back its 14-point lead. The Cornhuskers have scored three touchdowns in the second half and all of them have been from the defense and special teams. Safety Eric Lee started the scoring with a pick-six at the beginning of the third quarter and shortly after that, J.D. Spielman returned a punt for a touchdown as well.

It’s a good thing Nebraska has received scoring outside of its offense Saturday because South Alabama has played well. The Cornhuskers lead the Jaguars, 35-21, with under 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
