What Scott Frost said following Nebraska's lackluster loss to Northwestern
Nebraska’s matchup with Northwestern once again came down to the fourth quarter with the Wildcats escaping with a 21-13 victory.
The score alone is tough enough for fans to deal with, but that does not tell the full story. The Cornhuskers carried a 13-7 lead into halftime and outplayed the Wildcats to that point.
Unfortunately, it was Pat Fitzgerald’s squad that won the second half with 14-unanswered points. Twice Scott Frost’s Nebraska team had a shot to tie the game late, but those two drives ended with a Luke McCaffrey interception and turnover on downs with one second left in the game.
After the game, the shutout in the second half and the quarterback battle between McCaffrey and Adrian Martinez were the big talking points. Here is everything Frost had to say:
Frost on removing Martinez: "That interception, the timing was way off from what we expected. At that point, I thought we needed a spark. "

Frost doesn't want to comment on the QB battle right now. "Those guys are going to compete and I'm comfortable with both of them in the game. I thought we just needed a spark and gave Luke a shot. He deserved it."

Frost: "It begins with me. … It's inexcusable we only had 13 points in that game. … That starts with me. I got to make sure the guys are in good position to put points on the board."

Frost: "I told them it's my fault. I told them it's on me. And it is."
Said defense played its butt off.

Frost again says: "To come up with 13 points is inexcusable."

A different tone from Nebraska coach Scott Frost today than after the most disappointing losses of the past two seasons. Asked what he said to the Huskers after this game, Frost said: “I told them it’s on me. And it is.” Frost says nobody is more impatient than him right now.

Frost: "The discipline part comes back to me."
