Detroit’s three commercial casinos saw a drip in revenue from the month of September.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported that MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown tallied a combined $98.2 million in revenue last month.
That total was down 7.1% from August’s $105.7 million. It was also down 3.0% from September 2024’s $101.2 million.
Just one of the three casinos outdid their performance from a year ago, as the Detroit casinos continue to trend towards an overall decline in revenue this year.
Detroit Casino Revenue Down 1.4% for 2025
Detroit casino revenue was keeping pace with 2024 for most of the year, but recent months have seen a notable dip that has the trio on pace to fall short of 2024’s yearly total of $1.28 billion.
Month | 2024 Revenue | 2025 Revenue | Percentage Difference |

January | $93,904,688 | $102,299,593 | 8.9% |

Total | $963,021,064 | $949,488,919 | -1.4% |
September marks the fourth consecutive month that Detroit casino revenue is down year-over-year. September has not traditionally been a big month for the casinos with summer vacations ending, but this marks the second time this year that the three casinos have failed to hit $100 million in revenue.
While the retail casinos may be hitting a bit of a slowdown, Michigan online casinos continue to set new monthly records. August was a record-setting month in the state with $263.3 million. Michigan iGaming is pushing toward $3 billion in revenue for 2025.
Hollywood Casino at Greektown up slightly
Only one of the three Detroit casinos saw year-over-year growth in September.
Hollywood Casino at Greektown reported $23.4 million in revenue, up 4.4% from the $22.4 million it did in September 2024.
The same can’t be said for the overall year for Hollywood Casino at Greektown. It sits at $214.1 million through nine months of 2025, but that is down 3.2% from where it sat in 2024.
When it comes to the other two casinos, they dipped in revenue by multiple millions.
MGM Grand Detroit recorded $45.9 million in revenue last month. That was down 3.8% from the $47.7 million it hit a year prior. MotorCity Casino’s $28.9 million in September was a 7.2% decline from the $31.1 million it generated last year.
The three casinos created just under $8 million in state tax revenue from September, as well as $16.1 million in city of Detroit taxes.
