Detroit Casino Revenue Up Slightly In November, Still Behind 2024 Pace
By Drew Ellis
Published:
Detroit casinos saw the slightest year-over-year revenue gain in November, continuing a trend of producing a solid Q4 of 2025.
In November, the MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown combined for $106.5 million in casino gaming revenue. That was up just 0.06% compared to the $106.4 million they did in November 2024. It was also up 0.5% from October’s $105.9 million.
This marks the second consecutive month that the Detroit casinos have improved their revenue. However, it still appears that the 2025 revenue total will fall short of 2024.
2025 Detroit Casino Revenue Down 1%
Here’s a look at how the 2025 Detroit casino revenue numbers compared to what they did in 2024. As you can see, overall, the 2025 total is down slightly compared to a year ago. This data is available through the Michigan Gaming Control Board and the revenue page on their website.
| Month | 2024 Revenue | 2025 Revenue | Percentage Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | $93,904,688 | $102,299,593 | 8.9% |
| February | $104,759,798 | $98,013,728 | -6.4% |
| March | $122,262,266 | $116,784,353 | -4.5% |
| April | $107,872,951 | $109,447,648 | 1.5% |
| May | $111,341,364 | $112,730,957 | 1.2% |
| June | $104,554,380 | $100,379,545 | -4.0% |
| July | $106,303,231 | $105,975,725 | -0.3% |
| August | $110,793,319 | $105,676,108 | -4.6% |
| September | $101,229,067 | $98,181,263 | -3.0% |
| October | $103,673,981 | $105,931,003 | 2.2% |
| November | $106,441,300 | $106,503,676 | 0.06% |
| Totals | $1,173,136,346 | $1,161,923,597 | -1.0% |
Currently, the 2025 revenue difference is $11.2 million. It is hard to see the three casinos making up that kind of difference in December despite the October and November gains.
Though these three retail casinos may not quite hit their 2024 revenue marks, that will not be the case for Michigan online casinos. Following October’s record month of revenue at $278.5 million, Michigan’s iGaming revenue in 2025 has already surpassed all of 2024. Last year, the state did $2.44 billion in total revenue. Through October, the 15 license holders have recorded $2.52 billion in 2025.
MGM Grand Detroit Slightly Up in Revenue
When diving into each of the three casinos, two are down slightly in revenue, but the MGM Grand Detroit is seeing a narrow gain through 11 months of 2025.
| Detroit Casino | 2024 Revenue Through Nov. | 2025 Revenue Through Nov. | Percentage Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| MGM Grand Detroit | $552,472,736 | $554,587,066 | 0.4% |
| MotorCity Casino | $352,855,306 | $346,133,391 | -1.9% |
| Hollywood Casino at Greektown | $267,808,304 | $261,203,141 | -2.5% |
These three retail casinos may not be seeing much change, but their online casino partnerships are soaring in 2025.
MotorCity Casino is paired with FanDuel Casino, which has emerged as the online casino revenue leader in the state. In October, it set a new monthly record for an operator with just under $76.0 million.
MGM Grand Detroit is partnered with BetMGM Casino, which is second in the state right now in revenue. Last year, BetMGM led all operators in revenue, but it has already surpassed its 2024 total with $651.7 million through October.
Hollywood Casino at Greektown is partnered with Hollywood Casino, the PENN Entertainment product. Thanks to a great Hollywood Casino promo code, the operator is at $72.9 million for 2025 revenue and coming off its highest month to date in October with $9.3 million.
Detroit Casino Revenue History
Though the 2025 revenue is tailing slightly behind 2024 thus far, it is right in line with what Detroit has seen since the pandemic.
Should the 1% difference hold, the three Detroit casinos would finish with approximately $1.27 billion for 2025. That would still be ahead of 2021-23 in terms of yearly revenue
- 2024: $1,282,455,805
- 2023: $1,222,794,216
- 2022: $1,256,974,741
- 2021: $1,266,762,530*
- 2020: $620,385,028*
- 2019: $1,454,274,694
*Pandemic limited occupancy totals for multiple months in the year
While the Detroit casinos haven’t approached the pre-pandemic revenue totals, they have found a steady level since. With the addition of online casino revenue, which each location receives a percentage from their partners, the Detroit casinos are still doing well for themselves.
