Brandon Roy Jr. will officially be following in his father’s footsteps, announcing on Monday that he is committing to Washington basketball to play for head coach Danny Sprinkle.
The eldest Roy played for the Huskies from 2002-06. He would become a first-team All-American in his senior season. Roy’s 666 points in the 2005-06 season rank 7th on Washington’s all-time list for scoring in a single season.
As for the younger Roy, he’s a 6-foot-2 guard and an in-state prospect for the Huskies. He’ll join Washington’s 2025 recruiting class.
“In 2009 I watched my father’s jersey be retired at UW, not knowing one day I’d get to wear it,” Roy Jr. wrote on social media. “Thank you to Coach Sprinkle , staff and the University of Washington for giving me a chance. Thank you to my parents for believing in me.”
Here’s a glimpse at Roy’s high school highlights:
After going 13-18 overall last season with a last-place finish in the B1G, Sprinkle has been working hard to overturn the roster and improve things. In the transfer portal, the Huskies picked up 7 key pieces, including 6 players with a 4-star transfer rating from 247 Sports. That group was rated the 13th overall transfer recruiting class in the country per 247 Sports.
