Caitlin Clark had done it so many times at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, it was like riding a bike for her on Sunday.
The Iowa basketball legend returned as a member of the WNBA’s Indiana Fever in an exhibition game against the Brazilian national team. What followed was the usual magic that Clark performed so many times during her brilliant college basketball career with the Hawkeyes.
Clark poured in 16 points in the 108-44 beatdown, but that hardly told the story of the day. She included 4 very long 3-pointers, including 1 that she let go from beyond the giant logo just inside halfcourt. That came late in the 3rd quarter with the Fever already up 87-32, so it was really time to have some fun.
Here is the video of Clark’s logo shot:
After the latest shot right out of her bag of tricks, Clark provided some commentary on the bench.
“You knew that was coming,” said Clark with a big, wide smile.
Then Clark asked a question she already knew the answer to.
“Did it get loud in here?” asked Clark, who used to make Carver-Hawkeye Arena get really loud on several occasions.
Clark was never going to sit out on Sunday after missing the Fever’s preseason opener on Saturday against the Washington Mystics with an injury she described as “just a little bit of tightness.” Indiana head coach Stephanie White played the weekend perfectly, sitting Clark out on Saturday before her grand return on Sunday at Iowa.
Then on Sunday afternoon, it was showtime again for Clark, just like the good old days in Iowa City.
