Pryce Sandfort came to Iowa City as one of the top in-state players in the 2023 recruiting class. Now, the former Iowa star is heading to a Big Ten rival to continue his career.
On Friday, Sandfort announced he is heading to Nebraska to play for head coach Fred Hoiberg. He is expected to be a key addition for the Huskers after a dreadful end to the 2024-25 season for Nebraska, generating a 4-star transfer rating per 247 Sports.
Out of high school, Sandfort was a 4-star prospect and the No. 2 player from the state of Iowa for the 2023 recruiting class. He followed in the footsteps of his older brother, Payton Sandfort, but things undoubtedly look much different for the Hawkeyes moving forward.
Former head coach Fran McCaffery, the man who recruited Sandfort, is off to the Ivy League now, and the elder Sandfort wrapped up his career in Iowa City this season.
Sandfort was not a starter for much of his time with the Hawkeyes, but he began to improve as a sophomore this past season. He appeared in 33 games (2 starts) and averaged 8.8 points per game for Iowa while shooting 40% from long range.
The 3-point shooting stroke is the major draw for Sandfort, but he also shot 65.8% inside the arc and averaged 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists as a sophomore. We’ll see how he slots into the Nebraksa lineup heading into next season.
