Kezza Giffa was committed to USC for about 5 days. Now, he’ll be looking elsewhere for a spot to play next season.
Giffa, a High Point guard transfer who led the Panthers to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history, committed to Eric Musselman and Co. on May 29 and backed off his commitment on Monday. The former 2-time All-Big South selection is a talented offensive player and can get to the rim with ease.
However, his defense and outside shooting leave much to be desired, and it’s questionable how he will translate to the high-major level.
It’s worth noting that USC recently added former UTEP coach Earl Boykin, who coached Giffa during his lone year in El Paso in 2022. The Trojans announced Boykin’s arrival 1 day after Giffa committed on May 29.
Even without Giffa, the Trojans put together a strong transfer class that includes former Auburn F Chad Baker-Mazara, former Maryland G Rodney Rice and former Utah PF Ezra Ausar. Giffa would have fit in well as a guard alongside UNC Asheville transfer Jordan Marsh, who will now likely be expected to play plenty of minutes in the Trojans’ backcourt.
