Michigan Wolverines freshman Brandon McCoy Jr., one of the top players in the Class of 2026 cycle, will miss the 2026-27 season after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee. He suffered the injury last week during an exhibition matchup against KK Mega Superbet.
Obviously, that’s a massive blow for both Michigan and McCoy, a former 5-star prospect who was being watched as a potential NBA lottery pick heading into the 2027 Draft.
McCoy played well for the Wolverines this summer. He averaged 14.5 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals across 2 games from Michigan’s European Tour in Lithuania.
The 6-foot-5 guard was set to be one of the most talented players on the team as Michigan looks to reclaim its national championship from last season — this time without Dusty May on the sidelines.
With McCoy now out for the year, it’ll be intriguing to see if the Wolverines can land the plane with former Michigan guard Roddy Gayle, who is currently searching for a 5th season of eligibility and could feasibly return to Michigan if granted. Gayle filed a lawsuit against the NCAA in New York on Monday.
