Tom Izzo guided Michigan State to an impressive rebound season, complete with a Big Ten title for the Spartans and an Elite Eight appearance. Now, his staff is trying to rebuild the roster after some key departures.
To start the offseason, the Spartans lost their top 3 scorers from a team that won 30 games, including a 17-3 mark in B1G play. That included Jase Richardson heading to the NBA Draft, Jaden Akins graduating and Tre Holloman transferring.
Since then, Izzo’s staff has added some solid pickups in the transfer portal, and they added another promising prospect on Sunday. According to Joe Tipton with On3 Sports, MSU picked up a commitment from Divine Ugochukwu, a guard who made 28 appearances (16 starts) for Miami as a true freshman.

Listed at 6-foot-3, Ugochukwu was a 3-star prospect coming out of high school. However, he found ways to contribute immediately to the Hurricanes, averaging 5.3 points, 2.3 assists and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 48% from the floor.
While Ugochukwu struggled heavily from 3-point range, he has solid potential to be a contributor to the Spartans, especially after the departures from the 2024-25 roster. He joins a transfer recruiting class for Izzo that includes former Samford guard Trey Fort and former FAU forward Kaleb Glenn.
