10 things I’m absolutely overreacting to after Week 9 in the B1G

Week 9 saw a dramatic Ohio State come from behind victory and Michigan finding a new quarterback in the B1G. Here are the 10 things I am absolutely overreacting to after Week 9 in the B1G:

1.  J.T. Barrett cemented his legacy

The Ohio State Buckeyes came back and defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions, 39-38. In that comeback, quarterback J.T. Barrett cemented his legacy as one of the best to ever wear the Scarlet and Gray.

The senior was virtually flawless as a passer, Barrett completed 33-of-29 passes (84.6 percent!) for 328 yards and four touchdowns. He was magnificent once again as a leader and delivered in the clutch when everything Ohio State wants to accomplish was about to be stolen by Penn State. Plus, he added 95 yards on the ground.

I wonder if Ohio State fans still want him on the bench now?

2. Barrett also played his way to New York

While Barrett cemented his legacy in Columbus, he also played his way to New York to be a finalist in the win over Penn State.

The way he picked apart the Nittany Lion secondary, that was one of the best heading into the game, was jaw dropping. He looked like the J.T. of old. Plus, he out played perceived Heisman front runner, Penn State Saquon Barkley.

Barrett isn’t just in that conversation. He may now be front runner for the Heisman.

3. Wisconsin is not a playoff contender

Wisconsin, what happened yesterday?

Wisconsin needed to score some style points on Saturday but it didn’t

Yes, the Badgers did beat the Illinois Fighting Illini to stay undefeated. However, the way Wisconsin won was ugly.

On the year, the Badgers haven’t really beaten anybody noticeable to make them a strong playoff contender. The best team they have defeated is the Northwestern Wildcats. That’s not really a playoff worthy victory. And Wisconsin’s 24-10 win over Illinois exposed them as the fraud they are.

4. B1G is only getting one team in the playoffs

It is always possible for a conference to maybe get two teams into the playoffs. However, that doesn’t look like a possibly for the B1G this season. Ohio State and Penn State both have one loss and Wisconsin hasn’t played anybody.

With teams like Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, and Oklahoma still balling out this season, it is very unlikely that the conference gets two teams into the Final Four. Whoever wins the B1G Championship will more than likely represent the conference in the playoffs.

5. Rutgers is improved!

I’m going to beat this one into the ground until every other college football fan in the nation realizes the Scarlet Knights aren’t a punchline anymore.

Yes, Rutgers did lose 35-14 on Saturday to the Michigan Wolverines. However, those 14 points were the first points it has scored against the B1G East’s big four for the first time in nearly two years. It was their first points against Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State or Michigan State since a 49-16 loss to Michigan on Nov. 7, 2015.

I call that improvement people.

6. Brandon Peters is the future

Michigan quarterback John O’Korn wasn’t getting it done for the Wolverines on Saturday against Rutgers. So, he was replaced by redshirst freshman Brandon Peters. And Peters provided much needed excitement.

The offense thrived under Peters. Plus, he was making all the easy passes that Michigan for some reason couldn’t make with O’Korn or when Wilton Speight were in.

Peters finished the day 10-of-14 for 124 yards and a score. The young quarterback should continue on leading the Wolverines moving forward.

7. Cam Thomas is also the future

Although he had an abysmal outing against Wisconsin, Illinois freshman Cam Thomas is the future of the Illini program. He is a shifty runner with a good arm. If Illinois can improve in the near future, there is no telling what Thomas is capable of.

8. Tanner Lee…is a good quarterback

So, this is what Lee was supposed to look like huh?

In Nebraska’s 25-24 win over Purdue, Lee completed 32-of-50 passes for 431 yards and two touchdowns. That was Lee that everyone was expecting to see this season. However, like most college football fans haven’t noticed, Lee has been balling out this October.

Feldman’s stat proves that Lee is actually a good signal caller.

9. Northwestern fooled us all

At one point, the Wildcats didn’t look like a bowl team at all. Oh, how they fooled us all.

Now, Northwestern is on a three game win streak after beating the Michigan State Spartans in triple overtime. After that gutsy win, the Wildcats look like the second best team in the West plus look like an eight, still possibly nine win team.

10. Michael Deiter deserves the Piesman
