It is always an honor to be in the running for an individual award, and two B1G DBs have been selected as semifinalists for one prestigious national award.

The Jim Thorpe Award began in 1986 and is presented annually to the best defensive back in the nation. Iowa’s Desmond King, Michigan State’s Darqueze Dennard, and Ohio State’s Malcolm Jenkins are just a few of the former B1G players to take home the award.

The two B1G defenders in the running for this year’s award are Michigan’s Lavert Hill and Penn State’s Amani Oruwariye. Hill has one interception, a touchdown, and four passes defended so far in 2018. Oruwariye has two interceptions, eight passes defended, and a forced fumble.
