Two Big Ten players have officially been named semifinalists for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award. The award is presented to the top leader in college football throughout the season.
Center Harry Crider of Indiana and linebacker Adam Shibley of Michigan are the two Big Ten players who are semifinalists.
On the official website, the award is labeled as one that focuses on leadership and is named after Witten, a player renowned for his character and leadership:
“The award, presented by Albertsons and Tom Thumb, is the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player’s leadership, both on and off the field. Leadership is a term synonymous with Jason Witten, who, in addition to becoming one of the best tight ends in the history of the sport, has served as one of football’s most prominent role models during his 16-year pro career.”
The finalists for the award will be named on December 16 and then the winner will be announced at a ceremony on February 16 of 2021.
One Big Ten player has won the award before and that was Wisconsin’s D’Cota Dixon, who won it in 2018.
We are proud to announce the 20 semifinalists for the fourth annual Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award, presented to the top leader in college football. https://t.co/kv2UBP9Moy
