Week 1 of college football is in the books.

ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit is here to call out his top performers from an action-packed Week 1 slate. Here’s his list of his top eight best performers, which includes a pair of Big Ten programs:

Penn State comes in at No. 7 after defeating Wisconsin on the road 16-10 in Week 1. The Nittany Lions’ defense was sensational as they held the Badgers scoreless in the first half and picked off quarterback Graham Mertz in the red zone twice in the game’s final minutes.

Iowa is at No. 4 after smoking Indiana 34-6 at Kinnick Stadium in Week 2. Riley Moss converted two pick-6s against Hoosiers quarterback Michael Penix Jr. Tyler Goodson handled the offense for the Hawkeyes, rushing for 99 yards and 1 touchdown on 19 carries.

UTSA cracks the list at No. 8 after upsetting Illinois in Week 1. The Roadrunners got whatever they wanted offensively as quarterback Frank Harris threw for 280 yards and running back Sincere McCormick rushed for 117 yards.

Rutgers and Michigan State are two Big Ten programs who potentially could have been included on this list. The Scarlet Knights thrashed Temple in their season-opener, and the Spartans took care of business vs. defending B1G West Champs Northwestern.
