Football matters.
To many collegiate football players, it matters more than anything else. But to others, football isn’t everything. Academics can certainly be even more important.
Each year, the top scholar-athlete in college football is awarded with the William V. Campbell Trophy. On Wednesday, the 13 finalists were announced. Two from the Big Ten made the list:
- Christian Wilikins, DT, Clemson
- Drue Tranquill, LB, Notre Dame
- Kenneth Brinson, LB, Army
- Taryn Christion, QB, South Dakota State
- De’Arius Christmas, LB, Grambling State
- D’Cota Dixon, S, Wisconsin
- Ryan Finley, QB, North Carolina State
- Piercen Harnish, LB, St. Francis, Indiana
- Trace McSorley, QB, Penn State
- Dalton Risner, OT, Kansas State
- Max Scharping, OT, Northern Illinois
- Eric Stevenson, LB, Wheaton
- Easton Stick, QB, North Dakota State
McSorley and Dixon aren’t just among the 13 finalists. Each of these 13 players will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. The winner is announced on Dec. 4 and that player will receive an extra $7,000 in scholarship money.
It pays to do well in school.
