Ohio State fans will like the sound of this. 247 Sports analyst Josh Pate laid some high praise on Jim Knowles and the Buckeye defense.

“Defensively there are a lot of guys, a lot of really talented guys, that as individuals have not maximized their potential for Ohio State because they haven’t been put in the best position to,” said Pate.

“Jim Knowles and his staff will change that. I don’t know how long it’ll take, but I imagine a lot of it’s happening right now. The entire mood around this time is right where it needs to be.”

Knowles comes over to Columbus after spending time as Oklahoma State’s defensive coordinator from 2018-2021. He takes over an Ohio State unit that ranked 59th in total defense and 38th in scoring defense in 2021.

Knowles’ contract with Ohio State is worth $1.9 million over three years, making him the highest-paid coordinator in college football at the time of his deal per ABC6 News.

Ohio State opens up its regular season with a marquee matchup against Notre Dame on Sept. 3.
