Okpara attends La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana.
According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he’s the No. 16 power forward in the country for the class of 2022. The same service has him ranked No. 87 overall and No. 3 in the state of Indiana.
The Gophers might have an inside track, as one of his former teammates, Treyton Thompson, is currently a freshman at Minnesota.
“My teammate from LaLu, Treyton Thompson is at Minnesota,” Okpara told On3.com. “He just speaks highly of them, and how they helped him improve his body. They also have a good business school. Their facilities are also close to their dorms.”
Minnesota and Penn State both offered him back in April. He also has offers from programs like Xavier and Seton Hall.
The Nittany Lions already have two commitments in the class of 2022, including 3-star forward Evan Mahaffey. Minnesota currently has one commitment and the Wildcats don’t have any yet.
There’s no timetable for Okpara’s commitment.
