Three B1G players appeared on PFF’s list for the top-10 safeties in the 2023 NFL Draft on Monday afternoon.
Illinois safety Sydney Brown was No. 5 on the list. Brown had a productive season, recording 40 tackles and 6 interceptions on the year. He is sure to be one of the first safeties to go in the draft.
Just behind Brown was Penn State’s Ji’Ayir Brown, who recorded 56 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 4 interceptions on the year. He helped Penn State to an 11-2 record with a Rose Bowl win over Utah.
Another Illinois safety, Jartavius Martin, found himself on the list. Martin had 51 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions and 11 pass deflections on the season. The duo of Brown and Martin was ultra-productive this season and helped Illinois have one of the best defenses in the B1G.
Alabama’s Brian Branch was at the top of the list. He recorded 58 tackles, 2 interceptions and 7 pass deflections on the season for the Crimson Tide.
