Three Ohio State defensive players have shed their black stripes, officially earning the right to call themselves Buckeyes. The social media team in Columbus posted the videos on Wednesday morning.

The three players to remove the black stripe from their helmets are:

Andrew Turrentine, safety

Palaie Gaoteote, linebacker

Tyleik Williams, defensive tackle

The black stripe is a tradition that dates back to the Urban Meyer days at Ohio State. Before players were able to call themselves Buckeyes, they had to prove it on the practice field.

Once the black stripe is removed from the helmet, players are officially Buckeyes.

Ohio State is coming off a tough outing against Oregon and dropping to 1-1 on the season. There’s still 10 games remaining in the regular season, more than enough time for the Buckeyes to right the ship.

These three defensive players will now have a more integral role in getting Ohio State back at a high level.
