4 Ohio State assistants set to make over $1 million in 2020

Having the title “head coach” isn’t essential to making the big bucks in college football, and it’s especially true at Ohio State this year.
According to a report from the Columbus Dispatch, four Ohio State assistant coaches will hit the $1 million mark in salary this year. That’s more assistant coaches hitting seven figures than any public university has paid on record at one time.
New defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs will be the highest-paid assistant on Ryan Day’s staff, raking in $1.4 million in 2020. Offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Kevin Wilson is next at $1.2 million.
Co-defensive coordinator Greg Mattison and defensive line coach Larry Johnson will each make $1.133 million in 2020.
Together, Ohio State’s 2020 assistant coaches will make just under $8 million. While that does qualify as a lot of dough, it’s what it takes to take talented coaches in Columbus.
Ohio State finished the 2019 season with a 13-1 record, claiming a third-straight B1G title and appearing in the College Football Playoff.
