Mel Tucker is losing a high-profile recruit prior to Early Signing Period.

According to On3 Sports, 4-star running back Kedrick Reescano has decommitted from Michigan State. Reescano confirmed the report via his Twitter account on Thursday morning.

Reescano, a 5-foot-11, 190-pounder from New Caney (TX), has been committed to the Spartans since January. Initially, Reescano elect to head to the B1G East school despite holding offers from Oklahoma State, Houston, Kansas and others. Currently, the favorites to land the Lone Star native include Arkansas, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M.

The Spartans (3-4, 1-3 B1G) currently rank 31st in recruiting on 247Sports’ latest rankings. Michigan State has 12 hard commits, including 4-star defensive end Bai Jobe, 4-star defensive lineman Andrew Depaepe and 4-star linebacker Jordan Hall. The addition of a running back like Reescano, however, could pay dividends for a Tucker offense that’s been inept on the ground game in 2022.

Last season, Kenneth Walker III became a star in East Lansing, rushing for 1,636 yards and 18 touchdowns. This season,  transfers Jerek Broussard (Colorado) and Jalen Berger (Wisconsin) have combined for 558 yards and 7 touchdowns. As a unit, MSU is averaging a mere 3.7 yards per carry.

Currently, the Spartans do not have a running back recruit as part of their 2023 recruiting class.
