One of the best linebackers in the 2020 recruiting class is leaving Minnesota and will spend his college career in Madison, Wisconsin.

Wednesday, on the first day of the Early Signing Period, four-star outside linebacker Kaden Johnson announced his commitment to Wisconsin. He was the top player from the state of Minnesota, and was also considering the home-state Gophers and Nebraska.

Johnson became the 18th player in the 2020 class to commit to the Badgers.

According to 247Sports, Johnson is the No. 1 player from Minnesota and is ranked as the No. 14 outside linebacker in this cycle. Overall, he’s listed at No. 162 in the class.

Johnson, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound star from Minnehaha Academy, received plenty of interest on the recruiting trail, especially out of the B1G. Though he was considering Wisconsin, Minnesota and Nebraska most heavily, he also received offers from Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern and Purdue.

Per his evaluation on 247Sports.com, Johnson is an excellent athlete and is disciplined on the field with outstanding ball skills. He has the speed to make tackles in the open field, but could add a little extra weight when arriving in Madison.

Below are some of Johnson’s high school highlights.

With Johnson’s commitment, Wisconsin surged to No. 25 nationally in the recruiting rankings and now sits at No. 5 in the B1G. That will likely continue to change as the day continues.
