The first true freshman on Ohio State’s 2019 roster has officially lost his black stripe.

On Monday, Ohio State announced that former five-star wide receiver Garrett Wilson is officially a Buckeye, becoming the first true freshman to lose his black stripe this year. The moment was captured on video and tweeted out by Ohio State Football.

It’s always a special moment when a player loses his black stripe, especailly a member of the latest recruiting class.

As a recruit, Wilson was a five-star receiver and was ranked as the 20th-best prospect in the 2019 recruiting class. He was listed as the second-best player at his position and was labeled the No. 3 player out of Texas, according to 247Sports.

Wilson was an early enrollee at Ohio State, allowing him to participate in spring practice with the Buckeyes.

Even as a true freshman, Wilson is expected to make some sort of impact on the field for the Buckeyes this fall. He’s already done it through spring practice.

Fans can catch their first glimpse of the star freshman receiver and the rest of the Buckeyes on Saturday, as the team hosts its annual spring game at noon ET. The spring game will also be aired on Big Ten Network.
