The Big Ten is likely to clear the way for Ohio State to play in the Big Ten Championship Game, a move that drew varied reactions from across social media.
Ohio State, at 5-0 and No. 4 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, need to play one more regular season game to qualify for the Big Ten Championship Game. With Michigan opting out of Saturday’s game due to a spike of COVID-19 within their program, Ohio State would technically not qualify for the game.
And given that the Buckeyes are the Big Ten’s best hope to make the College Football Playoff, it appears that the conference is now willing to waive the six-game threshold.
The reactions, including a funny one by former CBS Sports senior vice president Leslie Wade (now head of Wade Management) as well as those more analytical, started to pour in soon after the report.
A look at the varied reactions to the news that Ohio State is heading to Indianapolis to take on Northwestern:
Awesome!! Nothing like playing 6 games & headed to the Playoff fresh. No injuries & wear of an 11 game schedule. Completely fair!!

if we are down for breaking rules…
go ahead and do away with the divisions and have #IUFB play OSU in the Title Game.

So dumb. Stick to the fake rules, and OSU can still play winner of Wisconsin-Iowa. Let NU and Indiana play for a chance to make a NY6 bowl.

Meh. Anything tOSU won this year was already going to have huge * next to it.

Sure, anything for Ohio St. Guarantee if this was any other team they wouldn't change it.
— Sketchy (@Sketchy72) December 9, 2020
Lol no they wouldn't. Ohio state is their cash cow. If northwestern was undefeated at 5 games they would have to suck it up.

Northwestern should probably plan on having the refs call the whole game against them too. Rules only apply to teams not OSU. So, should probably assume officiating only works for OSU too

At this point, they might as well put OSU in the playoffs by default…since that's what they want soo bad 🤷🏿♂️

Ohio state had two weeks to prepare for Indiana because of cancelled game. Favoritism is out of control at this point.
