Former Penn State star Abdul Carter needs a number for his time in the NFL, and it looks like Carter will have to don something other than the iconic No. 11 he wore with the Nittany Lions.

In fact, Carter has now been shot down by 2 attempts to wear numbers that are famous for the New York Giants, the team that selected him with the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s draft. First, it was the iconic No. 56 worn by star pass rusher Lawrence Taylor, and Carter has now been shot down in his attempts to wear the number of a former quarterback.

According to NFL insider Gary Myers, former Giants star Phil Simms had said on a podcast that he would be fine if his No. 11 was unretired and worn by Carter. However, Myers reports Simms informed him that the QB was “outvoted by his family.”

That means Carter will continue his search for a number to wear as a rookie:

Unfortunately for Carter, the Giants have 13 retired numbers (including one number retired for 2 players), so his options might be a bit slim. Maybe he will have to take Taylor’s tongue-in-cheek advice regarding the double zero:

“I don’t care if it’s double zero, and then make it famous,” said Taylor in his response to Carter’s request to wear No. 56.
