ACC’s leading rusher opts out of remainder of 2020 season

Louisville has lost star running back Javian Hawkins, one of the top running backs in the nation deciding to opt-out of the remainder of the season.
Hawkins, a junior, will focus on preparing for the NFL Draft. He will remain enrolled at Louisville through the semester. Louisville is 2-6 on the season under first-year head coach Scott Satterfield.

Considered one of the best running backs in college football following a sophomore season where he had 1,525 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns, Hawkins took yet another step forward his junior season. He was averaging 117.4 yards per game, best in the ACC, at the time of his announcement that he will be leaving the program.
Through seven games for Louisville in 2020, he had 822 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Louisville has lost two straight games including Saturday’s 31-17 loss to Virginia. Hawkins did not play in that game. The reason for his absence was not disclosed before the game by the team but could well stem from his decision to opt-out and focus on his preparation for the NFL Draft.
