Purdue lost to Minnesota 38-31 this past Saturday.

The Boilermakers were without their starting QB in Elijah Sindelar and top WR in Rondale Moore for much of the game. Both aforementioned players left on the same play.

People may have assumed that Purdue’s offense was going to do nothing productive after that unfortunate play took place. However, those people were wrong.

Freshman running back King Doerue went on to take 24 touches for 126 total yards and score 3 TDs against the Golden Gophers. He accomplished an eye-popping feat while doing so:

Doerue is the first Boilermakers freshman since 2005 to score 3 TDs in a single game. The last was RB Kory Sheets.

Doerue, coming out of high school, was a 3-star recruit and the No. 36-rated RB in the Class of 2019. Do you know what other Big Ten back was a 3-star recruit coming out of high school?

Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor.

Doerue has a lot more work to do to be mentioned in the same class as Taylor. However, this past Saturday, he showed that he is more than capable of being able to carry the load.
